Oh look! Another list... What did I tell you this is the end of the year where all favorite music outlets look back on the year of music and discuss it with you. I'm not original and I have no clue what I'm doing...I'm joking. This seems like a great way for you better to understand the music I enjoy and the bands I like to listen to. 5. Islander I had the opportunity to see Islander not to long ago, they are one of the openers for The Word Alive's Overdose Tour. I had no idea who any of the bands were other than The Word Alive. When they walked out on stage I found myself oddly intrigued. Before the set had even started their drummer went and individually thanked the people in front row for being their. I had never been to a concert like this before which I was something I really liked and appreciated. When their set began though I couldn't help but notice that their guitarist wears a sparkly dinosaur tale onstage. I had a feeling of confusion and intrigue when they began to play I found myself institantly hooked they were different and a little weird. In a simpler way of saying it...I loved it. 4. Mutemath I had the opportunity to see Mutemath with twenty one pilots on their summer headliner the Emotional Roadshow. I was entranced by their stage presense with their sound their lights set up and all things in between. They were very captivating and great band to see live. 3. Motionless In White How could I not include Motionless In White on this list? They are my all time my favorite band and I got to see them live at Warped Tour and each time they get better and better as a band. Being a fan of this band for so long is that with each time I've seen them live they've grown so much in popularity and get become more comfortable in their own sound. I will always see this band live when I have the opportunity and they have a high energy live show where you can always rock out hard in the crowd. 2. twenty one pilots I got to see twenty one pilots for the first time at their own headliner back in July. As a band with only two people in it Tyler and Josh make a energic live show which feels like opposed to having a band with the average 4, 5, or 6 member band. They can do it with only the two of them whether it be Josh doing a backflip off of Tyler's piano, Tyler crowd surfing in a hamster ball, or the incredible drum line they did during "Tear In My Heart." These guys are guaranteed to put on a great live show with several exciting things happening in their set. 1. The Word Alive Is it possible for a band to sound better live than a recording? I think yes with with The Word Alive! When I saw them on their headlining winter tour this past November I was simply blown away with the pure showmanship of the overall performance. Each member was dedicated to giving it their all when it came to how intimate show. They fed off the the energy of the crowd and vice versa it was a fun show where the audience was screaming their voices out especially when it came their popular song "Life Cycles." Overall it was a fun show and I consider myself very lucky to see Luke Holland live with the band before his departure. (Also; this concert made me loose my voice for a day.)
~~~~ This concludes my top live performances of 2016! If you ever seen these bands live let me know what your thought and what were your favorite bands that you saw live in 2016? Until then, See you in the pit 🤘 Mari Lozano
