The Dickies, a band that played a select amount of shows on this years Warped Tour, have been called out for their disrespectful stage presence. The scene was quick to call out the Dickies on their unacceptable stage presence. Though recently the band recently took to Facebook to post this statement.
"While doing our show a handful of people took it upon themselves to express their ire with my routine--a routine that includes apish antics, a penis puppet, and often ends with me saying, "You're a great looking bunch of kids. We'd love to go down on each and every one of you but we just don't have the time.”Apparently this group thought I meant it literally as they were holding a sign on the side of the stage (which was then thrown at me) that read: “Our teenage girls don’t need to be subjected to derogatory jokes by a disgusting old man” “Punk isn’t predatory”... I wasn’t there to “prey" on anyone’s child. In all honesty, as fine as most of my audiences are, I'll pass on having oral sex with each and every one of them. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to affix my groovy new “I *heart* Beaver" magnet (that I picked up in Beaver, Colorado) to the refrigerator and listen to “Beat On The Brat” by The Ramones. If some of you kids haven’t heard of them yet, check 'em out! They’re pretty cool." Safer Scenes posted scenarios of what should have happened in this instant to their Twitter page. "What should have happened: 1 The sound people could have cut his mic 2 The security people should have looked out for the target of the mob" and "Another good way to keep misogynist rants off your stages: don't book artists that have attacked women fans, don't book misogynist bands." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'd love to know your opinions regarding the situation that took place last weekend on Warped Tour, so be sure to leave me a comment down below! This is a talking point that we should really consider in our scene. Until then, See you in the pit! 🤘 Mari SOURCES http://www.altpress.com/news/entry/the_dickies_warped_tour_controversy

Lyrics really say a lot about the songs we listen to and the people we really are. Lyrics reflect on our lives and what we reflect and how we perceive ourselves and the world around us. The lyrics are some of my parts of a song it's something that I really think about when I'm listening to music. It's something that it's something connects me to the musicians I listen to. When I relate to these rock stars it really makes them more human. So in no particular here are some of my favorite lyrics from songs I listen to.
10. This is my beautiful show and everything is shot in slo-mo-tion (Slo-Mo-Tion by Marilyn Manson) This lyric stands out to me because in my personal opinion that something that is beautiful may be different to someone else. What is beautiful someone else could be someone else's hell, and I really needed this reminder in my life. It reminds that I can like what ever I want and it's okay if someone thinks it's something horrific. Manson delivered this line as in something that is matter-of-fact and he is just someone who doesn't care of others opinion. 9. I think I've thought myself to death (Come With Me Now by Kongos) This line really hits home with because I'm someone who constantly overthinks everything and I would really like to stop but I can't. There some moments where it really feels as if I do think myself to death since I'm constantly nagging at myself. It really is true to hear it in a song so I'm not the only that has been to hard on myself. But as the saying goes you are you're own worst critic. 8. Nobody thinks what I think (Kitchen Sink by twenty one pilots) This line is really simple, but I can really relate because I feel as if I think to much and I constantly think. It's a blessing and a curse because sometimes I wish I didn't think as much. This line and the entire song is something that I can feel a strong connection to after all "Kitchen Sink" is my all time favorite twenty one pilots song. I thinking of differently than everyone is a strength, though it doesn't always feel like one. 7. I'm not afraid to take the world on myself (Malevolence by New Years Day) I always really connected to sounds about growing stronger and being a badass. This line can someone "Malevolence" quite well because sometimes listening to a song where you are sure if you can make it in the world alone is nice. People try to tear you down but you just get back up stronger than ever ready to fight and make an impact on someone or something. Hearing this song will always make me feel empowered to do anything I want. 6. Hold on tight, this ride is a wild one (Missing You by All Time Low) Sometimes life is rough and you just have to ride it out. Going through ups and downs and definitely going through quite rollercoaster this past year I really related to. I think that this is a lyric a lot of people can relate to it's something that everyone can relate to. All Time Low are good at writing lyrics that can relate to. 5. Come as you are, as you were, as I want you to be (Come As You Are by Nirvana) I take this lyric is don't put up a front. To just be who you are and this is something that I think that more people today put up a front. Whereas this lyric calls for someone just to come and be yourself. I think that the idea of not putting up a front for the public transcends generations. It's relevant even for today for generations here now which I think that's Nirvana has managed to stay relevant all these years. 4. You found your place in the world tonight (Rock Show by Halestorm) In context of this song it's about a young girl finding their place in the world. And that is exactly how I feel when I listen to this song. A rock show is my place in the world, it makes me happy and content it's a nice escape from reality. This is super relatable if you ever been or love going to a concerts because it really embodies what concerts are to some people. 3. Maybe I like that I'm not alright (I'm Not Alright by Shinedown) As a person, I'm not alright I'm different than other people. Sometimes I feel like I'm not alright, and sometimes that can be not a bad thing. When hear this lyric I don't think the term "I'm not alright" isn't a negative things but when I listen to the song I don't think that it's a bad thing. It's something that tells you to embrace yourself and flaws. 2. Will I expire before my dreams unfold? But if the future's so bright the path should glow. (Hourglass by Motionless In White) I feel as if being in college nowadays it really feel some self-doubt settle in. You're about enter the adult world and experience something you've done before. You question everything whether you're going to be successful or if you're just going not to ever see success. It's something a lot of people feel in their life and you really start doubt if you can make it. College the arts this song and lyric can apply to both. 1. A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere (Soul Meets Body by Death Cab For Cutie) Death Cab For Cutie vocalist, Ben Gibbard, is very poetic and metaphorically when writing lyrics that really suits the music he and his band writes. Describing music as, "A melody softy soaring through my atmosphere," is quite poetic. It's unique it evokes emotion and that is why this is my favorite lyric and "Soul Meets Body" is my all-time favorite song. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What did you think of these lyrics? Until then, See you in the pit! 🤘 Mari Motionless In White are my all time favorite band and if you are interested in getting into the band's music here are some that I recommend to you. If you like my top 10 favorite songs by [insert band name here] let me know. This series can help find songs by bands that may not necessarily be featured in Artist of the Month. 10. AMERICAThis song is insanely catchy with the chanting lyrics will have you banging your head and chanting the infectious tunes. "America" has often been compared to a Golden Age of Grotesque Manson era song so if you like that album you'll definitely enjoy this song. This song also has awesome commentary on the social situation of America which is super true even today in recent events. 9. CobwebsI listened to this song in a time when I really needed it. I was going through a lot of changes in my personal life where I did make choices that would effect my life and reflecting on the past. I think that this song is something that can really help someone who has gone through something like this or knows how it feels to go like this. It's an older Motionless song but it really does also show the growth of where they were and where they are. 8. Contemptress ft. Maria BrinkI really love this song musically and vocally, I think that this song is a really fun and seductive song and this song would not be complete without Maria Brink. This song always stuck out to me off of Reincarnate it always one song that I came back and just enjoyed the story and delivery. This song is really something that is much softer their their other songs so I feel like it would be a good way to start with Motionless's songs. It's overall a really enjoyable listen and I love seeing this song live. 8. HourglassThis is off of their most recent release Graveyard Shift and I absolutely fell in love this song. I knew the exact emotions that vocalist, Chris Motionless, was describing in this song and I feel a lot of people can relate this song. Especially if you are going into the music industry or other form of arts. This song struck a cord with from the start and I really don't how explain how in just a few words. 7. FatalThis song was featured on the deluxe edition of Infamous it was a song that I felt was one of the band's best written songs. It really tells the story of a tragedy and I think that if you really take a chance to look at the lyrics you can really see how tragic this romance is the song. "Fatal" can only truly be described as one word fatal. It's a song that will make feel really connected to the lyrics and the song has the perfect delivery. It's heavy it's dark and it has something for every Motionless In White fan. 6. Everybody Sells CocaineDon't let song titles fool you, this song is not really about selling cocaine! A few years ago Chris Motionless posted on his Tumblr account about how he hated the term "bands saved my life." Basically, how something so innocent turned into something much darker and a call for attention. In "Everybody Sells Cocaine" [Chris] Motionless uses cocaine as a metaphor for a call out for attention on social media. 5. Loud (Fuck It)As a follower of the band you may have heard this was inspired by Chris Motionless's Think TEI class he did last summer on the Vans Warped Tour. As someone who did participate in Motionless's Think TEI class I did feel a connection to the song and did hear some of the things that were mentioned during the class. When I heard this for the first time I knew it was definitely going to be one of my favorites. If you went to the Think TEI class let me know what you thought of this song? 4. Black Damask (The Fog)I think that this song is a such haunting and dark track and one of the best opening tracks Motionless In White did for a an album. This song is an overall heavy songs that will have banging your head and possibly starting a mosh pit in your bedroom. It's one of those songs where you can hear it and instantly know that this is indeed a Motionless In White song. Fun fact, not that you cared: But I know how to play the intro to this song on the keyboard. 3. AbigailIt's a classic actually, I'm sure every Motionless In White fan gets excited when they hear this song start to play at a show. The song is based off of the play the Crucible which details the story of Abigail Williams and how she accused innocent women of being witches during the Salem Witch Trials. But don't worry! You don't need to read the play or watch the movie before listening to the song. The song really tells the story well where you can still follow along with the lyrics. I honestly love it when they play this song live anytime. 2. Death MarchThis song definitely sounds militant upon first listen, but this song definitely will get you hyped while listening to it. It's probably the BEST opening song to a Motionless In White album. It's truly an anthem, it's dark, gritty and really shows how Motionless In White is truly a diverse band when it comes to their style. It's also a truly amazing song to see live as every chants "DEATH! MARCH!" This song is truly an essential to every Motionless In White listen definitely don't sleep on this song. 1. Devil's NightWe finally arrived at number one, "Devil's Night" this song really showcases everything Motionless In White has. It shows how Motionless In White can use electronics and heavy guitar riffs to their advantage. It sets them apart from every other band in the scene. This song is also just amazing to see in a live setting it really gets the crowd hyped and being apart of it is truly amazing. The day they stop playing "Devil's Night" I'll so bummed this song is truly one of Motionless In White's best.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's a difficult task but somebody had to do it! Let me know if you're a Motionless In White fan and if so what are you top 10 favorite MIW tracks. To end it out I'll leave you with five honorable mentions and a quick update. City Lights 3. Soft 4. Sick From the Melt 5. Queen for Queen Until then, See you in the pit! 🤘 Mari Rock band Islander are releasing new music in the not so distant future. We aren't sure if it is an EP or a full length but what we can tell you is that this release will be called Summer. The band posted the artwork for this upcoming release on Facebook with the status "Summer is coming, who is ready for new tunes?" They also added a new song called "Summer" to the current setlist on tour. If you heard the new definitely me know what you think! Be sure to see Islander on their summer tour with Korn called the Serenity of Summer Tour!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ First, I would like to apologize for the lack of content on Feel The Pulse once again. My final exams for college are next week and once they're over I'm all yours. I know countdowns aren't the most exciting things to read about but don't worry I have exciting things in the works such as album and concerts reviews. I'm not forgetting about the blog. Second, for time remaining of my exams would you like to see countdowns where I countdown my favorite songs from bands? Examples would include Islander, Motionless In White, and any others I or you can think of. Until then, See you in the pit! 🤘 Mari Today I'm doing a part 2 to one of my previous Countdowns called "Top 5 Songs By Underrated Artists" back in May. I felt like continuing the list because I feel as if there are some many bands and artists that are overlooked by so many people. As I said in the last Songs by Underrated Artists, that these bands may not be underrated to you but they may underrated to others. So, in no particular order let's get straight into the list; 5. Give Me Your Heart by Black SkyBlack Sky are actually a local band from my area, they used preform under the To Paint The Sky. This is my favorite song by the band I definitely recommend you check them out because the definitely just as talented if not more talented as some of the bands in the scene. I've seen Black Sky open up for the likes of New Years Day and Black Veil Brides so if you're interested in checking out more of the music I would definitely recommend starting out with this song. 4. Captivate You by MarmozetsMarmozets are a band with a truly unique sound that I haven't heard very many bands do before. "Captivate You happens to be one of the bands slower songs but some of the band's songs can be quite heavy and intense. The band is full of siblings and family friends which is quite unique if you ask me. The vocalist, Becca Macintyre, has such a powerful voice that she will have you blown away with just a simple listen of one Marmozets' songs. 3. Demons by Icon For HireThe members of the band Ariel Bloomer and Shawn Jump embrace the D.I.Y. lifestyle. The band are advocates for fighting against your inner demons. The band has come quite a long way in the music industry after they left their label have been signed for quite a few years. You can listen to the band's hardships and triumphs in their crowd funded album You Can't Kill Us which only came out last year. 2. Broken Frames by Eyes Set To KillI don't hear very many people talk about Eyes Set To Kill, maybe because they were on a short hiatus. But Eyes Set To Kill are such an amazing band with equally amazing music. Eyes Set To Kill have slowly been returning to the music industry and I think more people should be recognizing them. This band have a unique dynamic as I have talked about quite a few times on my blog. I really believe in their music and urge you to check them out. 1. Catch Me When I Fall by Stitched Up HeartStitched Up Heart are slowly earning the fame that they deserve. They have a really cool sound that flows quite with vocalist, Mixi's, unique voice. Stitched Up Heart have really grown into their as artists and matured their style quite nicely. I am a huge fan of their last album Never Alone and I really think this band will go far so definitely check them out and let me know what you think.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yes, this is another prescheduled post...finals are still ongoing and the struggle is real...so I decided to give you five more songs by underrated bands which also turned into five songs by female fronted bands. Let me know if you have checked out any of these bands! Until then, See you in the pit! 🤘 Mari Summer is a different time for music is completely different for music fans across the world. There are so many that are entailed with the summer 1) Summer festivals 2) No school, whether your in high school and college you will be enjoying the lack of home work and 3) Warm weather. So here are some songs I will be blasting this summer whether that be at the beach with friends or just chilling at home. Let's get straight into the list; 5. Fucked Up World by The Pretty RecklessIt's only fitting that this music video is located at a beach. This one of The Pretty Reckless's upbeat songs, this song is a really fun song that will have someone singing along at the top of their lungs. Vocalist, Taylor Momsen, really drives this song home, this personally one of my favorite The Pretty Reckless songs. Which is only fitting because I will be seeing The Pretty Reckless this summer (expect a review coming near the end of June). 4. LA Devotee by Panic! At The Disco"LA Devotee" has quickly become one of my favorite songs by Panic! At The Disco. The infectious upbeat lyrics and singing about LA just reminds someone of the summer. This just reminds summer where you go out and have the time life with friends. Most people probably won't think this of the song but this is I song listened to quite a bit last summer so I has been ingrained into my brain. 3. Drugs and Candy by All Time LowAs you may know, All Time Low released a new album last Friday and one of my favorite songs off the album is "Drugs and Candy." The vocals and instruments are very complimentary to each other and I think that shows both new and old All Time Low in the track. I feel as if this a song I am going to be playing a lot this summer because it's upbeat and has a pop rock sound compared the more synth songs on the album. 2. Rat a Tat by Fall Out Boy ft Courtney LoveRat a Tat is probably one of my favorite songs off of Save Rock n Roll though I'm not the biggest fan of Courtney Love. This song is a really catchy one where you will find constantly stuck in your head. Though, this is the perfect song for the those long summer nights where you just need a anthem. This song will probably be on repeat for me all summer long as I'll probably force everyone I know to listen to it with me. 1. Lovely by twenty one pilotsI decided to choose a throwback twenty one pilots track, which is one of my favorites. The song title perfectly describes this song: lovely. I really enjoy how upbeat this song is and still uses these dark metaphors I really don't see people talk about "Lovely" that much online. While, others may not really enjoy the darker lyrics with upbeat music during summertime. Summer is when I feel like listening to twenty one pilots the most because they are so upbeat. Even when I'm feeling bad twenty one pilots' songs make me feel better.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I know! Most of you are surprised to not see this list flooded with metalcore music! During the summer I always go on pop punk/rock kicks (along with metalcore). But hanging out with friends I really do love to put on songs from bands such as Panic! At The Disco, twenty one pilots, Fall Out Boy, All Time Low. Leave a comment with what type of music you like to listen to during summer? Should I make these short little playlists for every season? Let me know! Until then, See you in the pit! 🤘 Mari I haven't really talked about music that I over all enjoy and what some of my favorite bands are. Since, I haven't been able to collect a new stories for you and we haven't really done a countdown in a long time I decided to compile a list of seven of my favorite bands. Which I will include my favorite, album and song so if you want check them out you have place to start. 7. The Word AliveFavorite song: Dreamer Favorite album: Dark Matter I got into just recently back in 2016 live and saw them live twice! Once at Warped Tour 2016 and the Overdose Tour and I think that this band puts on an insane live performance. The Word Alive are insanely talented I think that over this band comes together to put out some insane music. I think that this band's song that evolved to their very own style that's still has those metalcore elements that still has fans of heavy music coming back for more. 6. Eyes Set To KillFavorite song: Escape Favorite: Masks Eyes Set To Kill are a really unique band proving that girls and guys can come together and play metal. I feel like Alexia Rodriquez's voice is amazing where she can really sell any song that she writes with her bands. Eyes Set To Kill haven't released any new albums since 2013, but recently released a new single called "Break" and I look forward to what this band have coming up. I think Eyes Set To Kill's comeback will be amazing. 5. PVRISFavorite song: Ghosts Favorite album: White Noise PVRIS are probably different than any other band on this list. PVRIS have a really unique sound that has been titled gloom-pop. This band really has a nice blend of guitar, bass, drums, and synth along with vocalist, Lynn Gunn, which has a rock driven ambient sound. PVRIS have grown so much over the past few years and I really look forward to their new album All We Know of Heaven, All We Need of Hell. 4. All Time LowFavorite song: Guts Favorite album: Don't Panic All Time Low, which I don't think they need an introduction, are a pop punk band that can but out some really fun songs. I think that All Time Low are a band that have aspects that can appeal to almost everyone. All Time Low are also a really entertaining bands that can incorporate humor into music videos which are entertaining. This band are extremely talented...but I'm sure you already knew that. 3. Ice Nine KillsFavorite song: Let's Bury The Hatchet...In Your Head Favorite album: The Predator Becomes The Prey Ice Nine Kills are an extremely underrated and extremely talented, this band incorporates horror elements with metalocre. They are theatric and really put together creative stories in the lyrics and have an insane live show. Ice Nine Kills work hard with their music and their pay off really shows. They have a small fanbase and dedicated to the music this band puts out. 2. New Years DayFavorite song: Suffer Favorite: Malevolence I got into New Years Day in early high school, so I'm stuck with them. New Years Day are also an underrated band with a lot of talent. They've slowly been growing since they have opened for Marilyn Manson. Ash Costello has an amazing voice where she can really drive home songs for bands especially in her song "Suffer" which is my all time favorite. New Years Day are releasing a new album this year and I'm really looking forward to it. 1. Motionless In WhiteFavorite song: Devil's Night
Favorite album: Reincarnate If you know me at all, you aren't surprised. I've been a big fan of Motionless In White for quite a few years now and there sound has always stuck out to me. Motionless In White combined industrial and nu-metal from the '90s which I think really suits the lyrical content. Some of their songs can be quite campy such as the "Dead as Fuck" song series but others have some really heavy songs. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ First I would like to apologize if you don't like this countdown today, I've been quite busy finishing up my freshman year of college. So I've been caught up with studying for exams and writing papers. For the next week and a half I might be absent from the blog due to finals are coming up. Also, this isn't all of my favorite bands you can but if you want to know bands I have been enjoying over the month you can check out Artist of the Month. You can also see who I've been seeing in concert you can always read the concert reviews. Until then, See you in the pit! 🤘 Mari |
