Unfortunately this blog was created at the end of the year where all your favorite music outlets rave about their favorite music that took place in the past year. Am I going to be any different? Of course not! So as you probably awaited here are my top albums of 2016! 8. Death of a Bachelor by Panic! At The Disco This album was created by sole remaining member in the band, Brendon Urie, total creative control over the concept of the album. That's exactly what Urie did with the collection of songs that make up the album, a wide variety of albums that are have hip-hop and R&B influences, arena rock, and Frank Sinatra esc tracks on the album. They all come together to make up this highly anticipated album which came out in early 2016. Not only is the album is iconic though I have the feeling that album will be a monument in Brendon Urie's career. 7. Never Alone by Stitched Up Heart Stitched Up Heart's album is a fun light hearted rock/metal album. We really get to see this band grow into their own sound. This shows how they've matured and grown as musicians and have expanded their sound. Vocalist, Mixi, shows off with what she can do with her vocals. Each song has an impactful hard hitting punch in a way where you can rock out and dance to each song. This is the album that gets Stitched Up Heart the most recognition and brings them the head start in their musical careers. 6. Revolution Radio by Green Day Green Day are a monumental punk band who aren't afraid to speak their minds! This is one of my favorite albums from them since Amerincan Idiot. Actually, at times it seemed similar to the past album. To me it felt almost like this was the conclusion to the story of American Idiot. Others may disagree with the way I feel but, that's just how I feel. It had that same punk mentality that was thoughout and it just felt like it was the same band going back to the grassroots of what makes them who they are. 5. Every Trick in the Book by Ice Nine Kills Every Trick in the Book was in interesting concept for metalcore outfit Ice Nine Kills. Each song on the album took inspiration from a classic piece of literature some. Which is something that's been done in a song or two but I have never seen it been completed in a full length concept album. These songs really bring a new life and perspective of the story modernized and made relevant to the metalcore/Warped Tour band scene. Songs that really stood out from the pack were "Me, Myself, & Hyde" which was based off The Strange Case of Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde, "Bloodbath and Beyond" based on Dracula, "Hell in the Hallways" based on Carrie and many more! (This is one counts because it came out in late 2015) 4. Power Under Control by Islander Islander are one of the new bands I found this year and I immediately fell in love with their sound. This new release is something fresh and new to the ear. This band can have a unique arrangement of sounds that can sound upbeat and have light reggae influences such as songs like "Better Day" (one of my personal favorites). The album also has songs that are more dark and aggressive which is perfect for concerts when they open up for heavy bands...for example their song "Devil Red." I'm immediately attracted to bands that have a varied sound where no two songs seem exactly the same. It's very hard to describe the sound of this album in a few simple words, but if you like bands with divsersified sounds then this album is for you! 3. Misadventures by Pierce The Veil Pierce The Veil's Misadventures is album that surely grow on you with listens, it's the perfect for an upbeat post hardcore album. These infectious tunes will definitely get stucked in your head having you feel "emo" all over again. Which is exactly how even the majority of music lovers felt since songs did get radio play from this album especially "Circles." Pierce The Veil fans waited long for the anticipated follow up to their previous album Collide with the Sky. A monumental album for the band which left fans wondering how they could follow up such a smash hit. Well, I'm here to stay this follow up to Collide with the Sky surpassed expectations and spiralled this album to be one of their best. 2. The Black by Asking Alexandria This was a big album for five piece metalcore band, Asking Alexandria. This was there album that proved they don't need Danny Worsnop to be a successful band they can carry their own. Unfortunately, this was there one and only album with Denis Stoff before his departure. This album really brough back to life what Asking Alexandria was in the early days. It brough back the heavy Asking Alexandria that all the fans seemed to love and everyone seemed to be enjoying the music that was released from the album. Denis Stoff abruptly left Asking Alexandria a few months ago and Danny Worsnop rejoined Asking Alexandria. So no songs are being played from this album at live shows, sadly. 1. Dark Matter by The Word Alive Dark Matter is the album that got me hooked to The Word Alive. The songs of this album had a dark mystique surrounding it, all the songs of the album are addicting, and fun to see in a live setting. Though there is not as much unclean vocals in this album compared to previous works vocalist, Telle Smith, really can keep a listener hooked with his clean vocals. Along with the instrumentation of the rest of the band they come together to make very dark songs that are perfect to listen to for every occation. This album really stood out to me from the rest of the albums due to the dark aspects of the songs. It wasn't nessecarily the "heaviest" album which doesn't even matter. The songs I connected with the most on this album and would suggest for future listeners to check out are "Dark Matter," "Oxy," and "Trapped."
~~~~~~~~~~ This concludes my list of my top albums of this past year, keep in mind that this is opinion based and I stand by my opinions.
